# NEAR Protocol

The NEAR Protocol API provides secure, low-latency access to the NEAR Protocol through the NEAR **JSON-RPC** interface. FastNode operates **full and archive** nodes for this network, so you can read on-chain data and submit transactions without running your own infrastructure.

## Endpoints

| Environment | Endpoint                                         |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Mainnet     | `https://near.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY/`         |
| Testnet     | `https://near-testnet.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY/` |
| Archive     | `https://near-archive.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY/` |
| WebSocket   | `wss://near.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY`            |

## Example request

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="cURL" %}

```bash
curl --location 'https://near.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY/' \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{
    "jsonrpc": "2.0",
    "id": 1,
    "method": "status",
    "params": {}
  }'
```

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Python" %}

```python
import requests
url = "https://near.fastnode.cc/YOUR-API-KEY/"
payload = {"jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 1, "method": "status", "params": {}}
print(requests.post(url, json=payload).json())
```

{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

**Response**

```json
{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 1, "result": { "chain_id": "mainnet", "sync_info": { "latest_block_height": 132456789 } } }
```

## Common methods

| Method       | Description                                                  |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `status` | Returns node status and sync info. |
| `block` | Returns block details (by height, hash, or finality). |
| `chunk`      | Returns chunk details.                                       |
| `query` | Views accounts, access keys, and calls view functions. |
| `gas_price`  | Returns gas price for a block.                               |
| `send_tx`    | Broadcasts a signed transaction and waits per configuration. |
| `tx`         | Returns transaction status by hash.                          |
| `validators` | Returns current validators.                                  |

{% hint style="info" %}
The table above lists the most-used methods. For the complete method set, see the [NEAR RPC API](https://docs.near.org/api/rpc/introduction). All standard methods are supported unless noted otherwise.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.fastnode.io/other-protocols/near-protocol.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
